Bolivar cigars were introduced back in 1901 in honour of the famous freedom fighter and Venezuelan warrior Simon Bolivar (1783-1830). Simon freed most of what is today Venezuela, Columbia, Peru, and Bolivia from the tyranny of Spanish colonial rule. The brand was developed by the Jose Rocha Company and manufactured at the renowned El Crepusculo factory and later acquired by Menendez, Garcia y Cia.
Like Bolivar the man, the brand is categorised as strong and no-nonsense with full-bodied flavours and (generally) earthy, grassy and peppery notes- regardless of the size/vitola. Bolivar cigars are very full-bodied with considerably ligero in the blend. They are traditionally the most full-bodied Havana cigars, so perfect for cigar fans that are looking for an intense, full flavour. The Bolívar Cuban cigars have a reputation among cigar aficionados of being one of the strongest and most full-bodied cigars, with its Royal Corona, Coronas Junior, Petit Coronas, and Belicosos Finos being famous examples of the marque.
The brand was founded (possibly in Great Britain) by José F. Rocha around 1901 or 1902, though the brand was not registered in Havana (Cuba) until 1921. They once produced the world’s smallest cigar known as the Delgado. Coming in at a mere 17⁄8 inches with a 20 ring gauge, this was one of Bolivar’s most well-known cigar, and was even featured in the royal nursery’s dollhouse at Windsor Castle.
Cohiba, Fidel Castro’s preferred brand, was created in 1966 as Havana’s premier brand for diplomatic purposes. The brand was supplied exclusively to Fidel Castro and high-level officials in the Communist Party of Cuba and the Cuban Government. The brand name Cohíba derives from the Taíno word for “tobacco”.
Cohiba is historically known to use some of the finest cigar tobacco that is available in Cuba. The tobacco is selected from the finest first-class tobacco fields in the San Luis and San Juan y Martinez zones of the Vuelta Abajo region of Pinar del Río Province.
All Cohibas were originally made at the El Laguito factory, a mansion located on the outskirts of Havana that was converted into a cigar-rolling school for women in 1961. Production of these cigars was later expanded to the famous Partagas factory in Havana.
Since 1982, Cohiba cigars have been offered to the public in four sizes: Lanceros, Coronas Especiales and Panetelas. These were all extremely popular amongst the public and lead to more cigars being produced. In 1989, three more sizes were added to complete the classic line: Esplendidos, Robustos, and Exquisitos.
In 1992, the following five sizes were further made in order to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the discovery of Cuba in 1492: Siglo I, II, III, IV and V.
Cohiba’s continue to be famous for their high-end tobacco and price point. You can check the Cohiba reviews here and check the review for each cigar on the cigar product page.

Diplomáticos was the first new brand of Cuban cigars after the Cuban Revolution produced commercially for public sale.
Diplomáticos was created in 1966 from the Montecristo, and featured a slightly milder blend and lighter shade wrapper intended to appeal to the French consumer. Today, both Diplomaticos and Montecristo are produced at the José Martí Factory. Diplomaticos continue to utilize a medium-strong long-filler blend from the Vuelta Abajo region slightly milder than that of the cigars from the Montecristo line, but otherwise equal in terms of quality.
El Rey Del Mundo
A brand draped in prestige and heritage, El Rey Del Mundo translates to ‘King of The World’ in Spanish. First founded in 1848 by German businessman Emilio Ohmstedt, the brand is known for producing the most expensive cigar in the world for a while. The brand has featured some of the cigar industry’s best smokes since it was established in pre-revolution Cuba in 1882.
Their history in the cigar world makes them a popular choice even to this day. All sizes contain a blend of filler and binder tobacco from the Vuelta Abajo zone and are made by the Tripa Larga, Totalmente a Mano – long filler, totally handmade – technique.
For decades El Rey Del Mundo cigars have been an all-time favourite brand amongst many cigar aficionados. With an outstanding record for creating exceptional cigars, the brand is known for creating consistently superb Cuban cigars. The brand presents itself with an extensive portfolio of sizes, shapes, blends, strengths, and wrapper varieties.
Today they still produce superb mild cigars that are ideal for all levels of cigar smoker, noticeable by their distinct dark and oily wrappers. El Rey Del Mundo cigars are suitable for less experienced smokers who are new to cigars, or for those looking for milder flavours than the typically spicy Cuban cigars the country has become known for.
El Rey Del Mundo cigars are a perfect choice of Cuban cigar for any time of the day or night whether you are an experienced smoker or new to the game. You can check the Cigar Aficionado and other reviews of the brand here and check the review for each cigar on the cigar product page.

Fonseca was created in the 1890s by the handsome Don Francisco.
Caring about appearance and attention to detail he dressed all his cigars in delicate, silk tissue paper, a practice which continues to this day. The delicate wrapping also helps to maintain an optimal humidity level and serves as a protection against possible damage to the cigar.
