The first Hoyo de Monterrey to be selected for a Gran Reserva release, which is one of the most premium of the Cuban cigar conglomerate's offerings. The program was launched in 2009, and each release features selected tobacco that has been aged for at least five years. Only the company's six global brands are eligible to be selected for a release.

Like the regular production Double Corona, the cigar measures 7 5/8 inches (194mm) long with a ring gauge of 49. It is being offered in 15-count boxes, with a total of 5,000 boxes being produced. As with other Gran Reserva releases, the boxes feature a black lacquered finish, and the brand's seal and logo embossed in gold on the cover.
