The brand was first registered by Ignacio Larrañaga, a Spanish immigrant who first came to Havana in 1825. They became quickly well-known as a premium brand that produced cigars at a range of prices for many people to enjoy. Having a variety of prices available made them a popular choice among many, boasting a mild to medium strength which allows both amateurs and aficionados alike to enjoy the cigar.
In 1925 they became the first cigar brand to make machine-made cigars due to the reduced costs that would come from using a machine instead. This, however, changed in 2002, as all vitolas since then have been completely hand-made. Since going back to their old production ways the brand has only gotten more popular amongst those who enjoy smoking cigars. Their Por Larranaga Petit Coronas boasts a salty, nutty quality that many enjoy.
All the filler and binder tobaccos in Por Larrañaga come from the Vuelta Abajo region. The range includes cigars made using both the Tripa Larga, Totalmente a Mano – long filler, totally hand made – technique, and the Tripa Corta, Totalmente a Mano – short filler, totally hand made – method.
