Named of course after William Shakespeare’s tragic lovers, the origins of Romeo y Julieta as a Habano date back to 1875. The brand was first established by Inocencio Alvarez and Manin Garcia, but rose to international fame during the early years of the 20th Century under the direction of Don ‘Pepin’ Rodríguez.
As a result of his great salesmanship and fantastic cigars, the brand became extremely popular around the world. Many of their customers were very wealthy and therefore demanded personalised bands for their cigars. At its height, there were as many as 2000 personalised cigar bands being produced for their wealthiest clients.
Another Englishman, Winston Churchill, became a fan of the brand and following his 1946 visit to Havana after WWII. His name has not only been commemorated on a band but it has also served to describe the marque’s most famous cigar, the Romeo y Julieta Churchill. It was later joined by the Short, Wide and Petit Churchill.
Romeo y Julieta produces over 40 different shapes and sizes, with some considered the very best of their class. Their ability to have so many different sizes and shapes while still keeping up with their high quality is extremely impressive. The range of cigars they have available cater to any particular preference, whether you are a beginner with a Petit Julieta, or a cigar aficionado smoking a Churchill, there is something for everybody.
