Lighting up a Trinidad Coloniales is always a rewarding experience for me, blending smoothness with just the right amount of strength. Let’s see why this cigar has earned its place among the best.

Look & Feel: 18/20

The Trinidad Coloniales presents itself with elegance and precision. Its smooth, oily wrapper has a rich caramel-brown hue with minimal veins, proved me that this is truly high-quality craftsmanship. The cigar feels firm and evenly packed in hand, giving off a sense of luxury.

Pre-Light: 17/20

Before I lit the cigar up, the Trinidad Coloniales provided me with an inviting aroma of sweet cedar and a hint of cocoa. The cold draw was easy and smooth, delivering subtle flavors of earth and nuts with a touch of spiciness. This gives a pleasant preview of what’s to come, though it doesn’t immediately reveal the complexity of the cigar.

Burn: 16/20

The burn on the Trinidad Coloniales is generally steady, though it may require minor touch-ups along the way. The ash holds well and has a light gray tone, showing that the tobacco is well-aged and properly fermented. The draw remains consistent, providing a nice amount of smoke without too much resistance.

Flavor: 19/20

The flavor profile of the Trinidad Coloniales is impressively layered and refined.

  • First third: It starts with creamy notes of cedar, mixed with a light nuttiness and a faint hint of spice.
  • Second third: As I progressed, the flavors deepened, introducing earthy tones and subtle cocoa, along with a touch of black pepper that adds complexity.
  • Final third: In the last phase, I saw the flavors intensify, with more pronounced leather and roasted nuts, finishing with a gentle sweetness that lingers on the palate.

The transitions between flavors are seamless, maintaining an even, enjoyable experience from beginning to end.

Overall Experience: 18/20

The Trinidad Coloniales offers an excellent combination of flavor, balance, and construction. It’s a medium-bodied smoke that manages to deliver complexity without overpowering the senses.

The cigar’s refined flavors and smooth transitions make it a great choice for those who enjoy a more subtle, yet still engaging, smoke.

Pairings

For a truly elevated experience with the Trinidad Coloniales, consider these ideal pairings:

  • Aged Rum: The smooth sweetness of an aged rum with notes of vanilla and caramel beautifully complements the cedar and nutty flavors of the cigar, adding richness and depth to the overall experience.
  • Espresso: The bold, roasted flavors of a strong espresso highlight the earthy and peppery tones of the cigar, creating a satisfying contrast between the bitterness of the coffee and the smoothness of the smoke.
  • Port Wine: The fruity richness of a well-aged port wine brings out the subtle cocoa and spice notes in the Trinidad Coloniales, creating a balanced and indulgent pairing for a relaxing smoke.

Closing Remarks

The Trinidad Coloniales earns a respectable 93/100 from me. Its flavor profile, featuring notes of cedar, nuts, and a hint of cocoa, offers a smooth, medium-bodied smoke that’s enjoyable from start to finish.

The cigar’s construction is reliable, providing a consistent burn and an easy draw that adds to the overall experience. While it may not be the boldest cigar, it’s perfect for moments when I want something refined and satisfying.

It’s a great pick for a laid-back evening or when I want to savor something with elegance. The Trinidad Coloniales definitely deserves a spot in any cigar lover’s collection.
